New Hampshire driver education standards require that your son/daughter turn 16 prior to the end of the class they enroll in. Classes are taught in a relaxed, student centered group setting at 193 Water Street in Exeter, New Hampshire. ( Next to the academy boat house) Our "Course Guidelines" and "Frequently asked Questions" explain our program in more detail. Upcoming Driver Ed. Classes held at Drive Safe Inc.,193 Water Street, Exeter, NH. 03833 Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter 2010 Sign up with no money down, reserve your place in class, budget your payments, as the balance, is not due until the final class. Class starts 8/23/10 must be 16 by 9/29/10 (FULL) Class starts 9/27/10 must be 16 by 11/4/10 Class starts11/1/10 must be 16 by 11/30/10 Class starts 12/01 /10 must be 16 by 12/29/10 The first night of orientation as well as the following14 classes are held from 6pm to 8pm. A $225.00 deposit is due the first night of class. The final balance of $400.00 is due in full prior to the last night of class. Class schedules may vary due to snow days or federal holidays. Classes are 5 to 6 weeks in duration due to the enrollment in class. Classes usually meet Mon, Tues, and Wednesday nights 6:00 to 8:00 PM. Guidelines For The Course Our goal is to help you become a safe, responsible driver. We have listed some guidelines for the course. This will answer commonly asked questions and provide the information you will need. Our school is certified by the Department of Education and Licensed by the Department of Safety, State laws mandate that you must attend all classes and finish all driving times before a Course Completion Certificate will be issued. Selection of Students Students must have turned 16 before the completion of the selection will be on a first come, first serve basis. Remember, classes fill quickly so early enrollment is recommended. (No money down at the time of enrollment) Classroom Regular class times there will be scheduled during the evenings, 6:00pm to 8:00pm. You will receive a call and/or a mailing notifying you of this time. During this class, driving schedules and classroom hours will be finalized. Each student is to receive a minimum of 30 classroom hours, 10 hours of road instruction and 6 hours of in-car observation with an instructor. State laws does allow two misses with make up work. The teacher will work with the student on missed time. Absenteeism Students missing classes or driving time will not be able to receive their Course Completion Certificates until all requirements have been met. According to Driver Education regulations, any missed classes must be made up within six months of the original course. Driving Once driving schedules are determined after the Orientation Class. Students are responsible for being on time at the designated pick-up location. Every effort should be made to provide written updated schedules to prevent miscommunication. Any student who fails "to show" for an assigned driving time will be charged($35.00) for a missed lesson. Students can drive during study halls, mornings before school, after school, nights, and weekends. Each student may be assigned a driving partner based on each student's availability and is required to complete a minimum of ten hours each of driving time, and six hours of observation. Evaluation Students must maintain at least a 70% grade on classroom and score an 80% grade on the final exam. Enrollment Cost $225.00, is payable, at the beginning, of the course, the balance of $400.00, is due prior to the conclusion of the class. Enrollment is on a first come, first serve basis. Information with regards to dropping from the program after registration and attending is made available during orientation. Additional Driving Instruction This is designed for any community members who wish to "upgrade" their driving skills. The rate of $50.00/hour is the going fee.

Frequently Asked Questions How does this course start? Drive Safe students who have registered online or by phone and confirmed will be reminded by phone of the impending class. Drive Safe, Inc. is not able to accommodate" drop in " students. When are classes held? Classes will be held after school from 6 to 8 pm. The days classes are held are Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. There will be, some exceptions depending on school vacations, etc. All teachers strive, to avoid planning classes during school vacations, so students can join their parents, on vacations. Where are the classes held? At 193 Water St., Exeter, New Hampshire. We have been holding classes on the Squamscott river side. The parking lot is easy to find. You will be able to readily locate the Exeter-Portsmouth "Drive Safe" Driving School sign across from the P.E.A. Boat house. As a student driver, will I be assigned to drive with another student? This depends on the availability of driving times. When students do drive together, the teachers strive to match students with other compatible student drivers. Furthermore; at the beginning of the course, a student can make a request to be scheduled to drive with another Driver Ed. classmate. The teacher will make attempts to align their schedules. Why do the Portsmouth Trip? This provides a uniqueness unlike any of the previous driving hours since it is usually scheduled during hours 6 and 10. By this time, students have been provided solid instruction involving the basics of driving. A logical choose of city driving is Portsmouth, New Hampshire. City driving in Portsmouth provides an ideal climate for introducing student drivers to a city driving environment. Besides being one of New Hampshire's largest cities, Portsmouth offers a new experience for students who may not have had the opportunity to visit the city first hand. How do I secure a spot in an upcoming class? The best way is to send in an application made out to Drive Safe Inc. Driving School. Students must pay a $225.00 deposit on the first class. Once a student attends the first class, there will be no refund. Receipts will be issued once any payment is received. Is there anyway I can secure my spot without paying the full fee by the first class? This would require a $225.00 deposit (which is non-refundable). A student must have paid the balance of $400.00 by the last class, or the student will not be able to attend this class. However, students are picked on a first come, first serve basis. Your brochure describes each class between 10-20 students and the duration of the class as being 5-6 weeks. Why not a larger class? The idea is to offer a quality program. It is with smaller classes that the teachers can better individualize to meet each student's needs. Learning to drive safely is the most important skill a young person can learn. Statistics state this, as well a review of the daily newspapers. This takes time and patience in a well coordinated, sequential way. The instructor's philosophy is to build a solid foundation of basic skills aligned with working as close as possible with parents. How long is it between your scheduled courses throughout the year and can I sign up ahead of time? Ideally, the Driving School Office would like to process a class of students every 5-6 weeks. Sign up early because this school is well established, servicing sever al generations of happy customers! Yes, one can sign up ahead of time for the next class or future classes thereby reserving a spot. To reserve a future class slot, the application and no deposit must be received by us. Our scheduled courses are planned due year in advance, so sign up early to reserve a position in the class. Keep in mind that NH State regulations do not allow for more than two missed classes (subject to instructor discretion)....so choose your semester with that in mind. When are classes held for the classroom portion? Classroom time will be held after school, 6 to 8pm depending on the needs of the enrolled students. Can you describe the automobiles Drive Safe Inc. Driving School provides? We utilize a Honda Civic, a Acura TL, and a Subaru WRX. Some of the features include: Tilt steering, Rear-Seat Ducts, Power Winders and Door Locks, 6-way Power Driver's Seat, Anti-Lock Breaking System, Air Conditioning, Integrated Control Panel, AM/FM Stereo/Single CD Player, and Electronic Speed Control. We also specialize in standard shifting in the WRX. These vehicles serve our increased demand and reduce our carbon footprint.
How is my driving time scheduled and where do I meet the teachers when I am scheduled? Driving time is scheduled to meet individual preferences as much as possible. The teachers spend considerable time setting this up and provides an updated copy of schedules, should they change. The student normally meets the instructor at the Drive Safe Inc. parking lot , or school , or home when scheduled to drive. At the end of the student's driving time, the student will drive home. When feasible, the instructor will pick up the student(s) at their home address and deliver them back home. Students having driver's ed on road lessons, may drive during study halls, provided school policy, is followed. Can a student living in New Hampshire take a Driver's Education class in Maine? No, the student must complete all of his driving in the state of New Hampshire. Can I drive in my parent's car with them while taking Driver's Education? Yes. You may begin to work on your skills with a NH licensed driver 25 years of age or older when you turn 15.5. Legal proof of age needs to be readily available. We will supply you with the required 20 hour practice sheet with someone other than a driver education instructor when you begin our program. This documentation is required as part of your application for a NH State license. As you can see, this is a partnership program. Can New Hampshire Driver's Education students drive in other states? As each state has its own motor vehicle laws, but it depends on their rules. Parents are advised to call the state's Bureau of Motor Vehicles in order to find this out, the answer is usually a "No". How long does a New Hampshire Driver's Education student have to wait to be scheduled for a test after he/she has met all the requirements? Once completing the class, students are allowed to go to a test site conveniently located. Students will be given 1) 30 question, multiple choice written test( 20 questions will be on the manual, 4 incorrect questions are allowed, 10 questions will be on signs, 2 incorrect are allowed, 2)vision test, 3) road test. Both the road and written tests must be passed with 80% or better to acquire a license. The cost of this exam is $50.00.
